Maybe I’ll get some frowns for saying this, but I feel like it needs to be said. Wedding dresses vary so much in cut, color, and style that the choices can be overwhelming. I put together some tips for brides to consider when choosing a dress for their big day.
Try It On.
No, really, try it on. Make sure you can sit in this dress, make sure you can boogie in this dress, and make sure you can do normal human things like lift your arms and breathe! Chances are you’ll be doing all this and more on your wedding day.
Look At A Variety.
Maybe you have been looking at wedding dresses since you were a little girl, or maybe you haven’t even seen a wedding dress in your life. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed it’s that wedding dresses are not one style fits all. Expose yourself to a variety of dresses, colors, fabrics, and lengths. Heck, head down to your local bridal shop and just try some on! You may surprise yourself seeing that you like a dress ON you better than it looked on the hanger.
This should be obvious, but it needs to be said. Choose a dress that flatters your body type. If you like your back- show it off! If you are self-conscious about your arms then a strapless dress probably isn’t the dress for you. If you’re going to spend a bunch of money on this dress and even further, if you’re spending a bunch of money on photos of you in this dress I want you to look SMASHING in this gown!
Think about the theme of your wedding day. Are you getting married on the beach? Stick to something that is a little more casual. Church wedding? Go regal! Think about how the style of your dress fits in to the scene of the day. Everything will meld like a story book and it will make choosing your bridesmaids dresses that much easier, too!
